While there are countless travel guides, not many cover what you feel when you are travelling to a place. Our perspectives vary depending on our culture, upbringing, individual choices and personalities. A Small Town Girl in – The Travelogue Series is about this missing, yet an important aspect of travel. If the place were a person, how would you describe them? How would the place’s company make you feel? Would you fall in love with them or make friends, call them your mother or forget them as soon you take the first flight out?
There is a reason why people fall in love Paris, or cannot get Manhattan out of their heads, or decide to settle in a place that is neither there birthplace nor professional spaces. There is something that happens between you and the city the moment you step your first foot on its soils. The air, water, ambience, people, buildings, streets, all trigger a complex chemical reaction – that is just between you and the city. Sometimes, it is the person you become when you come in contact to the place, the place where you got educated, or fell in love, or were born. Quite often, there is no reason. First glimpse and it is as if the city had been waiting for you to turn up all this long, for years, decades and centuries. Sometimes, the city gives you a rash – on the mind or the soul. It is a mismatch that no amount of work, shopping or friends will heal. You are lost like a fish out of water – because again, it is between you and the city.
Every place is and will remain, a work in progress, like places and people are. We are ever changing organisms. Coming up second in the series is ‘A Small Town Girl In Budapest’. Meanwhile, enjoy the first edition in this series. Happy travels.
